Google Maps user doesn’t want to have to keep tapping to stay on current route

As a user of the Google Maps app navigation (especially when I am driving), I want the ability to keep my chosen, current route to stay unchanged, without having to tap buttons ad-hoc whenever Google Maps finds another route that it would like me to take.

Google Maps navigation: User should be able to keep route unchanged without having to tap buttons ad-hoc

Current State:
If you are taking a current route, then whenever Google Maps decides there is a better route for you, you need to tap on a newly-appearing temporary button to “opt out” of getting moved off your current route. If you don’t tap the new button in the allotted time, then you will get moved off your current route.

Desired State:
For some users:
As a user who chooses a certain route for various reasons and does not want to deviate from it willy-nilly, I do not want to have to be ready to keep tapping new buttons that may suddenly appear, to stay on my current and chosen route. My current and chosen route stays until I explicitly opt to change it.

Implementation Details:
A (new?) setting that allows the user to default to “no change of route” unless the user “opts in” to the route change.
There is another setting that allows user to keep the Current State (default to Google’s recommended route change unless user explicitly taps to not change route, each time there is a Google recommended route change).
UI: This setting should appear on the app settings screen.
