Product price should be listed in the email selling the product

Email newsletters that are selling items should have the price listed directly in the email body. Attached is an email from Rutgers University of New Jersey advertising its latest lineup of general-education / community-education courses. I already know the prices on these courses are rather expensive, which is probablprobably one reason that the prices are not listed.

Another reason, I speculate, is that it’s much easier for them to just change the price on the “backend” website and be able to keep reusing the same email template.

Especially if they keep raising their prices.

Yet another reason is that they want you to click to see more so they can track the interest (besides just viewing whether you opened the email).

But that’s bad for the customer experience (CX). The potential customer wants to see a price when they are being solicited to buy something. Otherwise it smells faintly of tracking-bait.

One might say “oh but it’s a university – they can advertise their offerings without putting the price on the mass email”. Yes, that’s true when it comes to degrees and programs, but not for one-off or a la carte offerings such as standalone continuing ed classes. And they can, of course, but this CX post is guided by conversion optimization goals.
